Hi all...

i have downloaded lots of tutorial and also webpages using IE 5.5 (using the option "save as type->complete web page")...

now the problem is when i want to backup these files into a cd my cdrecording software(easy cd creator 3.5b)tells me that some file names are invalid and therefore they needed to be changed.. when i select the option->"change all"... it can write okay..

but when i want to browse these recorded files in the cd the images are not displayed... because while saving the files in my HDD IE5 uses comlex naming system (for example--"http://www.javascriptcity.com/forums/newthread.php3?action=newthre%ad&forumid=7" )for the link..

Now is there any solution..so that i can backup the pages as like as IE saves it localy to my HDD..?

Waiting eagerly for reply...

Hi Sayeed,

the easiest solution: save it to your harddrive first, rename the files/directories so they have no spaces, then copy to the cd

dear Vinny..

i wish that it could work out...
Its not that simple... let me show you an example...
I have saved a utorial on Flash...
When i saved the tutorial page as a complete web IE created one html ile and one corresponding folder related to that saved page...

now in that folder there are more 3 html files namely ad.html, logo.htnl and scriptfree_detection.html... and each of tese three has got individual folders containg their images and link lists under the previous folder...

and sometimes the names are pretty wired... for example--
"homepage;dcove=o;kv=;sz=468x60;tile=1;ord=10659_files" ... now if i rename this folder the page will be loaded ok.. but there will be no images, hence loosing the comlteness of the webpage...

can u figure out that please...

Hi Sayeed,

Yes, you may have to edit the html page itself so that the file names match, but...it is still the easiest solution.

Sayeed,

If there's no interactive content on the pages (other than HTML Links), and it's a straight-forward tutorial, you may want to invest in Adobe Acrobat (full version). I've used it in the past for putting together tutorials (for when I was in school and whatnot), and it works pretty well.

Something else you mentioned has me wondering - could there be a problem with IE 5.5? After all is IS beta software, and we all know how "robust" and "bug-free" M$'s betas are...

Finally, remember, some content may NEED a server and/or a live webconnection to run correctly!

Good Luck,

Jim
