I don't know if any of you, who are reading this, ever heard of the affiliated network program, though basically it allows you to have products on your web-site that commercial stores who provide there products for you to sell. My point though is, I have joined this program and I am now tring to place my url in this pitcular web-site that places your url in a bunch of search engines. However it says if you are in the affiliated network program and do not sell unique products, such as, books, software, or music, then you are not eligable to place your url in these search engines that they provide. So my question is, if thats so, then how in the world do these people have there url in these search engines? It does not make sense to me because if that was so then nobody would be able to have there url in a seach engine at all except for those commercial web-sites. HOW????? This does not make sense at all. The way I am interpting this is, you might as well as tell me that you can have this beautiful store but you can't place your ad in the yellow pages even though there are tons of ads in yellow pages.
any ideas on how this is done?

Hi Bobaluee,
I am not really sure I understand the problem here  You belong to an affiliates program and you are trying to register your website on some web based service that registers it too many engines ?? The service has a rule about pages that are strictly affiliates and banners and will not register them... If that is true there are about 3 options
1. Register with the search engines (one by one) yourself..
2. Get a submission program for your PC or Server and register the site yourself the same way the service would have (for your pc try Tucows.com for submission utility or URL submission for server try cgi-resources and URL submission).
3. Find a new submission service that will submitt your site (run a search Url submission service)
Hope This was at least useful :)

Hi,
Caislander's suggestions are the sure and true way to go. But, if you would like to hassle the service for hassling you:
You can include at least one unique product. I would say a downloadable personal photo of yourself would be worth say $100.00 -- make sure the photo and price is displayed prominently so that the submission people can see it. Also make sure that you put a lot of hullabaloo around it -- NEW! ONLY ON THIS SITE! -- etc. That should take care of any legal problems they have. Also, if someone actually pays you $100 for the privilege of downloading your photo, hey you made out.:)

There are three problems with this...
1. the one that caislanders tells me what to do is to register to the search engines themselves... who are these seach engines that allow to subscribe to from one at a time. The place that I was going to is domez.com, and they place your url at Lycos.com, HotBot.com tripod.com, goto.com, and a couple more. My Point is I want to be in these popluar search engines meaning that I don'r want to strictly have to go to don_joe_serach.com ect. I have tried looking for a registeing link at lycos.com, hotbot.com ect... and there's nothing to be found. Though I do see these poeple where able to register at these sites, who are in the affiliated network.
2. as vinny has stated be a little smater and trick them by adding atleast on thing that is different. What can be different when I guarantee my customers that I don't hold any credit card information of theres none whats so ever and I don't want the hasselment of haveing credit card info any way which I don't want to scare my customers away. Though I have thought about having a tutorial on a certain program that I have which I know a lot of people use, but I need some dough coming in, meaning that I want to get into a popular search engine that can hopefully help me out letting customers know that I have excellent services to provide them. However what do you think about stating that my web-site is a search fiinder. Would that be different
3. what does caislander mean by get a submission program for your pc or server and does this cost anything and does it mean that since I am with AOL I can do it with them? Thouh if cost even $1 I can't even afford that. I am unemploed student going to college tring to better myself with the e-commerce business.

Hi Bobaluee,
http://www.hotbot.com -- left side 2/3 way down -- 'submit web site'.
aol also has a place where you can submit your web site. Where I'm not sure; search for something and when all the options pop up, scroll to the bottom of the page, there should be something like 'add site'

Morning,
I will try to answer each of your questions as best I can, but first some general information. Generally site submission services only register your site with the big 5 or 6 search engines there are literally a 1000 or more engines on the web now some other site submissions add you to many FFA (Free For All) link pages many of which a legitimate business does not want to be associated with so by doing it yourself you control to what engines and FFL or link pages you are submitted. Admittedly this is a hassle to do 1 at a time but submission of your site remains under your control :) .. I do believe Vinny's way will work just fine if that is the way you decide to go after all the worst that could happen is they reject your site :( ..
1. Each of the search engines has a "submit URL/Add Site" somewhere on the site Vinny has provided the one for HotBot. At the Alta Vista site the add url is ¾ way down the page left site below main menu. At Excite.com it is the 5th line from the bottom of the page. Lycos.com 1st line above the Netscape now at the bottom of the page… And so on and so forrth for the other engines..
2. As for a submission program this is a program that is used by submission services to submit your site to a group of engine & link pages at one time, you can get a program just like they use and do it yourself (heck you can become a submission service) If you have access to your server's cgi-bin you can get a server side script at http://cgi.resourceindex.com/Programs_and_Scripts/Perl/Website_Promotion/Submitting_URLs/ they range in price from free to hunderds of dollars. I use one of these on my server to submitt client pages.. If you do not have access to your servers cgi-bin you can get pc based submission programs here http://tucows.ax.apc.org/promo95.html I also have one of these on my work comp for submitting client page to a larger engine/link base..
Anyway I hope this is useful to you, if you have any other questions post back.. :)
Ps; I went to http://domez.com/ to see what the site requirements were & who they were submitting to and found that there is NO site there it says that this URL has just been registered at Register.com so is the service your trying to use still there is that the correct URL?

calslander,
if you are curious and you want to know the exact url it is http://www.domez.com
I try not to have hyperlinks in my posts here because I am affraid what links are legal and illeagal. I have read the TOS (terms of services) when joining this fourum it said something about no solicitating business web-site links when posting in this forum. So I said the hake with it and decided not to post any links. However if it is okay to post the link that I just said above then, ok now I know. :)
P.S. Thanks for the help, both of you, Vinny and calslanders

Hi,
Glad we could help :) As for the url that is the url I went to there is no page there it is as I said in the above message.. ???
On the links thing I think John ment that he didn't want you spamming or posting messages to the forum that contain no question that is relevent to the link that you post.. In other words atempting to advertise your business site on this forum, if as part of a question or answer you post a link to another site business or otherwise as long as it serves to help us with your question or you to answer ours I don't think John will delete it.. ;) and if I'm wrong I am sure John will post the correct information :)
Later
