I'm a beginner and I use a MAC. In the html for beginners page it says of the materials I'll need to get started, if I'm using windows to go to Notepad in the text editor. Well, as I'm using MAC OS, & not windows, I sure would like to know the equiivelent to look for. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi
Not EVER being a Mac user I have no idea what the default text editor is but if you need a text editor (for Mac)n to write HTML in check out
http://www.tucows.com/ and do a serch for "mac text editors" it will return a bunch..

Hope this was useful

Kim,

As a part-time Mac user I can suggest several ...

One is simpleText, the Mac equivalent of Notepad, (actually notepad is the windows equiv of simpleText)....
SimpleText is found on every Mac's hard drive somewhere ...

Next, I would suggest something like Tex-edit, it is a beefed-up simpleText .. easy to use and has more functionality than SimpleText.

If you need a GUI type web-page creator and you have an iMac or newer Mac, you already have a copy of Adobe PageMill. Its ok as long as you are doing a simple, (and I stress simple), page. I actually use it sometime to get the gross look of a page, then code it using a text editor.

Hope this helps..

Hi Kim,

Regarding your question: bbedit I've heard of since time immemorial -- it's supposed to be a top of the line text editor (think there was even an MS-DOS version some 10+ years ago). What comes with the mac nowadays I don't know, but anything that is a simple text editor would do. You do not want to use a word processing program unless you can save the file as straight ascii text.

Hi big_wreck,

don't worry -- I'll always help you (I enjoy helping the downtrodden underdogs -- mac users or otherwise :)
Now if you told me you used a TI-99, an Atari 800 or an Amiga, I'd worry some; macs I can understand -- a lot of nice stuff, but nothing I personally can use -- can't draw and tone deaf,

Vinny

Hi folks,

Actually, I really have come to like my iMac (and mine's Grey - ok "graphite" - so no comments about what a pretty color it is please :) )...

Anyway, as has been noted Kim - SimpleText is included with the Mac OS, and BBEdit is another program you may want to consider looking into.

Thank you one and all. I didn't know all we were talking about has been right here in front of me all along. Again thanks. And I'm too old and poor and unsuccessful by certain consumer standards to be a "yuppie". I simply see no reason to deprive myself of what even non Mac users admit to as being the superior system. Isn't it funny how Windows/PC users will eventually admit the Mac is better and yet not think kindly enough of themselves to get one? Funny people, humans are. Thanks again.
