Attaching short cuts to buttons (Esc, Enter, Shift+F1)

Is it possible to attach short cuts (such as:Esc, Enter, Shift+F1, ect.) to buttons, and if so how? Please respond as soon as posible. THANK YOU!!!

I'm not postive, but I don't recall having seen it done so I'm leaning toward no... but then again someone else may know more, or if I find a better answer I'll get it up here. :)

Somewhere in the recesses of my convoluted grey matter, there is a recollection of what you want. However, all I can think of now is trapping all keycodes and dealing with them accordingly.
event.keycode(keypress) (enter= 13)
