there's one after master geek...I went to see how many images were up, and master geek is like geek5.gif and there's a geek6.gif, but they never told me what I missed, so I don't think I'll learn what's above master geek unless one of you guys is like a super nerd.
THe geek6.gif pic was pretty cool :)
lol, i'm just a geek apprentice...don't know if that's a good thing. I saw all the geek pics but couldn't access to the geek6.gif image, how did you see it?

Hi Adog,
Amusing, but...
How geeky can the site's webmaster be if he/she says 1KB = 1000 bytes. I meeeean how he do hex? Does FF become FE - a_bit_or_more? And a cache is a whaaat?

Hmm - maybe a "SuperGeek" category necessary :)

What's up,
They clasified me as a Master Geek as well but the test was a joke any ways. As Vinny said they better add the extra 24 bytes.
Peace Out

I view myself not as a "geek" of any kind, just HIGHLY INTELLIGENT, BRAINY, BRIGHT, CLEVER, SMART, INTELLECTUAL, AND EVEN CUTE.

What's up,
I as well as many others view me in a similar manner considering I'm a hip-hop head B-boy/Emcee/Graffiti Artist as well as good with the females. I feel I'm intelligent not a nerd or geek but out of simple curiosity I followed the link and took the test.
Peace Out

I am also a master geek. But those questions were pathetic. I could have answered them 4 years ago when I was 10 years old! I need a real computer challenge. hehe

unlike jkd (not jdk ;)), I didn't know much about computers 4 years ago, let alone 12 ... some of those probably 40 years old *winks at Vinny* LOL :D
Adog
1-6, I admit are hard.
7/ He "borrowed" MSDOS from the original QDOS, which stood for "Quick and Dirty Operating System".
8-9 are also hard, hehe.
I guess I'll never be as geeky as you Vinny. (I guess knowledge does come with age, right? -I just had to get that in there as I can't let Arielladog get in all the age hits-)

Vinny,
You are showing your age here I don't evn know some of those (wasn't there or wasn't doing comps)
Here's the ones I do know ( I Think ) ;)
1. should that be cp/m - as in an very early OS by Kindall p[opular in late 70's
2. considered by many to be the first PC. what a bummer no keyboard no monitor only switches :) "The Blue Box"
3. The generic name for the CPUs and architecture released by IBM around 65. Models went from 360/20 to (I think) 360/95 The 360 architecture was based on an 8-bit computing
4. Got no clue
5. The 1st IBM clones had a 5mb HD but I know that the 360 disks & tapes were used before that & punch card before that.
6. Kindall, but he was too busy flying his personal plane to meet with the IBM reps :) He said scr** them if they can't take a joke
7. A directive of cp/m crafted together by hacker Tim Paterson
8. Don't even remember that far back
9. Sorry to admit but I have always been a DOS user util FORCED to convert to windows 3.1.1 on the networked I was working on at the time.. Except maybe my atari which was a TOS OS :(
10. founder of Borland
Did I get enough to even qualify as a jr. geek?? Not that I am sure that is a good thing :)

4. I'd guess Hercules. I do have a 286 with that in there that I was trying to upgrade once...don't ask about upgrading 286...lol. I wasn't actually upgrading, just using the case. WHo has 286's besides Vinny?
Adog
P.S.-I'm the only who gets to make fun of the resident old fart around here...got that jkd? :D

Greetings Geeks
You did dam (sic) good Cais.
4. aDog got it.
5.
a) hard drive came out with the XT
b) RAM was in KBytes -- I believe 16
c) tape cassette -- yes -- punch cards??? :) would have been a hell of a big system between the puncher and reader
d) 180K floppy -- came with the second model
e) japanese/filipino parts -- probably, really don't remember, but there may have been some tawainese/korean chips in there and at least 1 from the USA (so they could claim "made in the USA" :)
6. I heard he told his secretary to tell them he was going off to fish and they could come back after the weekend
7. of...? --> Seattle Software ? Poor Tim made diddly-squat out of the deal. Whoever said Gates was stupid?
8. 255 --> Think 8-bit char; Actually, I think it didn't change until version 4. I remember some editor at PC Mag telling me she couldn't save any more files to her drive. She had a mess of empty directories and most of her files on the root. :)
9. a) QuarterDeck (think they are still alive) -- eventually allowed multiprocessing.
b) Forgot Big Blue??? OS/2
About 3 others (one of which I reviewed but can't remember and have no idea where the PC Magazine clipping is.)
Orchid Technology (primarily a video card producer) came out with a card that allowed for co-processing, but no windows -- shoot!!! I should have saved that one for the next test :) Though the next one should be on coffee, junk food, languages and/or algorythyms -- a true geek test.

I tried the test...looked at the source code...I never found the 'geek me' button...what did we have to do?
Was this part of the test or something?

Hi candyplague & welcome to the world of geek!
Re your question: I guess so. The button is clearly labelled ("Geek Me") right after the last question

from this page: (http://www.euronet.nl/users/frankvw/IhateMS.html)
By the time PC-DOS came out, Gates had already shown that Microsoft's future would hold very little innovation indeed. Gates' views on development are probably best illustrated by the following:
From: 'Programmers at work', Microsoft Press, Redmond, WA [c1986]:
Interviewer: "Is studying computer science the best way to prepare to be a programmer?"
Gates: "No, the best way to prepare is to write programs, and to study great programs that other people have written. In my case, I went to the garbage cans at the Computer Science Center and I fished out listings of their operating system."Seldom have both Microsoft's lack of innovation and their kludgey, ad-hoc approach to software design been worded so concisely. Apart from that it's interesting to note that while many people have called Microsoft products copycat, trash or garbage, most of them probably had no idea how close to the truth they really were. :)
