Interested in learning ColdFusion and will be starting from zero. Haven't been able to find a good online tutorial site yet, any suggestions?
Now here's the stupid question... In using ColdFusion, will it mean shelling out the sheckles to Macromedia also? I tried to download the trial version without much luck, and noticed that the list price was six hundred odd dollars.

In order to use ColdFusion, you will need a server with ColdFusion on it. You can perform some basic dynamic tricks without a database, but to really harness the power of CF, you should have a database.
I highly recommend Ben Forta's Web Application Construction Kit (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0321125169/ourthoughts-20/103-8080796-3884638). I've had it for over a year and it has helped me immensely.

Hi Slacker,
did you search google for 'cold fusion tutorial'? Good is a relative term, but here's one to start:

Hello,
The best way I know to learn coldfusion is to read Ben Forta's books.
I got mine from Amazon very cheaply and one of them comes with a CD that has CFSERVER installation trial version plus CF STUDIO 4.
Macromedia's CF stuff is not as good. The original CF stuff was created by Allaire but they sold it
The book with the CD is called : ColdFusion, Web application and construction kit, (third addition) by Ben Forta.
I can also recommend his Advanced Cold Fusion book, his Certified ColdFusion Developer Guide Study book
And FUSEBOX: methedology and techniques ( ColdFusion edition ) by Steve Nelson and Craig Girard.
See his site at www.forta.com
E-mail me or try yahoo messenger, maybe we can chat and i can send you the files you need.
Best Keith
