I hope this is the right place to put my thoughts on hosting companies.
I have used (and paid for) a few in my time.
I tried a UK Company called Eclipse (based in Exeter) and they were OK until there was a problem, and then their Customer Service left a lot to be desired in terms to speed of response to fairly basic problems.
I also used BlueDomino (from the makers of CoffeeCup software) and they worked well, but in todays terms seem expensive, and some of their inital setup takes far longer than it should.
I now use DomainDiscount24 for my hosting, a company I found by accident when I got a new domain registered with them automatically. They host two domains for me, and you purchase the web space, and email space independantly, and it is priced separately too. I thought this would mean more cost, but it means I only buy the number of mailboxes I require, choose their capacity and also the amount of web space I need, and pay accordingly. I think 10 mailboxes with 30mb of space costs about 8 GBP for a year. 50Mb of web space is about 10 GBP a year from memory. My website have been down on just one occassion since I joined them 18 months ago, and even though they are based in Germany every support call I have placed by phone or email has been responded to well, and in English.
Sorry, went on longer than I intended, I just feel when you find someone offering a good service, they are worth a mention, to make up for all the moaning I do about the others! :)
