what good uk hosts can you recommend.

i would like to register a domain name and be able to have unlimited subdomains and i would like the site to have a minimum of 50mb that can later be upgraded.

does anyone know any good uk hosts that will let me have unlimited subdomains with min 50mb space that can be upgraded?

ok here what i had a thought about i thought that maybe if i get a seperate hard disk to store just my website on and content i want to add to it, then just pay for a domain name that i will use for people to be able to view the website.

how would i do this?
how would i make that hardisk available for people to view?
would this be a good idea? as i would prefer this to buying space from a host.

Do a google search for "dynamic dns" - it will give you a number of providers who provide the service. Basically your machine tells their servers your IP address, then they arrange for traffic to your domain name to be sent on to that IP address.

If you have a static IP address you can just use that....

Hi,

No problem.

I have a firewall/router too - and have just set up what you want (I was playing about with the router settings and decided to give it a go)

If I'm online in the UK evenings or at weekends then you should be able to reach my machine on: http://piglet.is-a-geek.com  I've currently got a copy of the FAQs there.

You need to configure your router (most likely in the NAT setup of the firewall) to forward all traffic coming in from the internet aimed at port 80 back out to port 80 on your machine (the one hosting the web-site)

I signed up (for free) with http://dyndns.org - it seems to work well for me. I noticed that they mention problems with Linksys routers - so you may need to watch out if you use that make.

I don't see why you should
